Americans beat the Canadian hockey team on their own turf.
Hockey is the Canadian national pastime, and in this victory American hockey players showed the world that there is great talent south of the border.
Hope they make it to the podium!

Luge, Another Sport I Will Not Be A Part Of...

Everyone loves the Olympics.
The ancients were wise and cultured people.
Greeks passed on the love of sports, competition and social gathering through the Olympic Games.
One thing that I am pretty sure was not intended with this gift is the death of participants. Recent tragedy involving Georgian Luge athlete leaves me numb and speechless. Therefore, Luge has been added to the list of Sports I will never be a part of.
As I grow older and more mature (so I'd like to think) there is a list that keeps growing. This list includes things like flying in a Hot Air Balloon, Bungee Jumping, Fencing, Motor Cross, Hot Rod Racing, Gymnastics, Climbing Mount Everest ... and now Luge.
Each of us has a wild side and an ambition to try new things. My aspirations change on a daily basis and there is always some activity or new and exciting adventure that tempts. To learn and be patient is a virtue and this virtue comes at a price of trying less and achieving more with what you already know and love.
This is not supposed to be inspiring or uninspiring to individuals who live to try new stuff and venture forward. This is simply a take on personal choices.

Medicinal Leeches - A Growing Industry in Russia

Leeches are swelling in popularity both medically and cosmetically with big-name enthusiasts from the likes of Demi Moore who recently had leeches suck her blood in the name of detox therapy.

And it is good news for Russia, which breeds 10 times more leeches than the rest of the world combined.

The majority of the country's leeches are born in the International Leech Centre just outside Moscow. Imagine a library, but with jars full of leeches instead of books, and a female-dominated workforce making for a maternal atmosphere.

Farm manager Elena Titova says: "There is always contact and a special relationship between humans and leeches. Women have a maternal instinct so they are better at doing this delicate and complicated work than men."

There are two million leeches at the farm - at one pound per leech, this is big business.

Each leech has three sets of jaws with 90 teeth; their medical value lies in the fact that they secrete a natural anaesthetic that also prevents the blood from clotting.

Feeding time involves buckets of cows' blood and resembles something out of a horror movie - leeches that are about to be sold do not get any food for three months to ensure their appetite is strong when they reach clients.

Wierd but TRUE

Lawmakers in Russia’s Kemerovo region may ban the sale of nasvai, a mixture of tobacco, slaked lime and chicken dung used for chewing and popular in Central
Asia and Afghanistan, RIA Novosti reported.

The regional legislature passed a bill that would ban the chewing tobacco mixture in a first reading today, the state-run news service said.

Nasvai produces a mild narcotic intoxication in the user,RIA reported.
